Our Story

As his wife Natasha will tell you, Mike Baryla is always looking for projects. As luck would have it, Mike and Natasha were able to combine one of their passions in life with a great opportunity. During their research into this venture they were introduced to Jared Etzel via mutual friend Kenny Koda. After putting together a business plan, Mike and Natasha ended up purchasing the Redford-Wetle vineyard which, ironically, Jared had looked at purchasing for himself.
As everything fell into place it was decided that Jared would be the winemaker and the wine would be made at Mike Etzel’s brand new Sequitur facility. The 2021 vintage presented some unique challenges. Although the weather was spectacular, several logistical challenges presented themselves due to the pandemic. All of this was overcome and the team is looking forward to fantastic wines.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The team at Tekstura believes minimal intervention is the key to success when you have a great terroir. The wines are fermented in barrel or large concrete tanks depending on the varietal and aged in neutral barrels to keep the expression as pure as possible. Along with the traditional wines, Mike has decided to conduct an “experiment” every year. These wines will be very limited production and made in progressive styles to see what happens when we think a little outside the box.

A winemaker with a pedigree like Jared’s is extremely hard to come by. He grew up on the iconic Beaux Freres property and has worked in the winemaking industry pretty much his entire life. In addition to Oregon, Jared has previously worked for some of the top producers in Napa and Spain. The expertise he brings to Tekstura is unmeasurable.

After completing an International Relations degree at the University of San Diego, Mike opened his own business. When it was time for his dad to retire from the family steel fabrication business he sold his venture and became CEO of Olmar Supply. After developing a passion for wine, Mike went on to complete the Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier program and purchased the Redford-Wetle vineyard.

Natasha met Mike in 2010 and they were married in 2015. She currently helps run Olmar Supply and is also a passionate wine enthusiast. Natasha completes the team as she has the eye for design and aesthetics that Mike very clearly lacks. This makes them a great team for Tekstura.
